Electrical Insulation

Lamina Dielectrics produces many products used for electrical insulation. Our spiral winding, layflat, extrusion and other processes mean that we can offer better technical solutions for electrical insulation applications. Some examples of electrical insulation applications are shown below. If you have a new application needing electrical insulation tubes, sleeves or caps, please contact us to see if we can help you

Electrical Insulation Products - Motor Connection Insulation

Motor Winding Connection Insulation

Industrial and domestic electric motors need low cost, high performance insulation for winding connections. This insulation has to withstand high temperatures, high over voltages and yet remain tough enough to withstand high compressive forces during the manufacture of the motor. Some applications are even more demanding, such as hermetically sealed compressors for refrigeration which require the use of materials with proven refrigerant compatibility.

The best solution for this type of application for temperatures up to 150C is to use HSNO caps. Made from UL approved materials, with shrinkable inner layers and tough non shrinkable outer layers, they are easily slipped over connections and hot air is then applied to shrink the inner layers tightly onto the connection.

Shrink fit insulation for high temperature thermal cut-outs used in washing machines

Making Electric Motors Safer

Domestic and industrial electric motors can overheat and cause fires. To prevent overheating motor manufacturers fit thermal cutouts within the motor windings to stop the motor before it overheats. These thermal cutouts have to withstand the motor overtemperature and yet still ensure good electrical insulation. We supply many of the market leaders with shrink fit insulation tube for high temperature thermal cut-outs.

Flexible sleeving for hermetically sealed domestic refrigerator compressors

Flexible Sleeving

Highly flexible sleeving is needed to protect and contain motor lead wires within a refrigerator compressor. If the sleeving is too stiff, noise is transmitted from the motor to the compressor housing. The sleeving is immersed in the refrigerant fluid so it is also important that it is made from a very inert material. Our ETFE layflat tube is used within the refrigeration industry to help our customers achieve the very low noise levels expected from modern refrigerators.
